In South India, Kerala has brought to the performing arts a contribution of exceptional wealth, such as Mohiniattam. Mohini is the female incarnation that takes the god Vishnu to fight against the power of demons, each time they try to seize the elixir of immortality. Under the sensual form of Mohini, Vishnu comes with his charm to divert their threat : succumbing to her seduction, demons, fascinated by her dancing, end up forgetting each time the object of what they lust for… This myth in its various forms, has inspired artists. Mohini gave her name to this dance that was danced to the sovereign court and in the precincts of temples. Mohini is the enchantress; this dance appears as a beauty spell that should wrap the beholder, and lead him closer to the Divine.
